Don’t Be Blind

PLEASE read the following parable.

There was a blind girl who hated herself because she was blind. She hated everyone, except her loving boyfriend. He was always there for her. She told her boyfriend, ‘If I could only see the world, I will marry you.’ One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her. When the bandages came off, she was able to see everything, including her boyfriend. He asked her,’Now that you can see the world, will you marry me?’ The girl looked at her boyfriend and saw that he was blind. The sight of his closed eyelids shocked her. She hadn’t expected that. The thought of looking at them the rest of her life led her to refuse to marry him. Her boyfriend left in tears and days later wrote a note to her saying: ‘Take good care of your eyes, my dear, for before they were yours, they were mine.’

This is how the human brain often works when our status changes. Only a very few remember what life was like before, and who was always by their side in the most painful situations. LIFE IS A GIFT. Today, before you say an unkind word – Think of someone who can’t speak. Before you complain about the taste of your food – Think of someone who has nothing to eat.. Before you complain about your husband or wife – Think of someone who’s crying out to GOD for a companion. Today before you complain about life – Think of someone who went too early to heaven. Before whining about the distance you drive Think of someone who walks the same distance with their feet. And when you are tired and complain about your job – Think of the unemployed, the disabled, and those who wish they had your job. And when depressing thoughts seem to get you down – Put a smile on your face and think: you’re alive and still around.

Think of the above as 2013 comes to a close….and, as you begin 2014. 🙂
Have a very blessed New Year!
Less than an hour after I uploaded this entry, I saw that a Facebook friend tagged me in the video below, because as she stated, “If I tagged you it’s because I think you love horses or just a positive story about friendship and animals.” Coincidentally, the story is about the relationship between a blind horse and a goat. I decided to share it with the parable above.

Why You Should Be Thankful

Today is Thanksgiving, and many people will gather with family and/or friends, to enjoy good company and good food.

Some, unfortunately, by no choice of their own, will be alone and hungry, today. If you are one of the fortunate, please pray for them.

If you are one of those who are going through a tough time right now, remember EVERYONE goes through tough times at some point in their life. Be strong and don’t give up.  The tough times don’t last forever. Be thankful for the other blessings that you have had, have now, and will have in the future.

Regardless of how your day is spent, we ALL have so much to be thankful for. If you are reading this, be thankful that you made it to another day. Some who went to sleep last night, did not wake up this morning.

I think the song below conveys the message of being thankful the best. Please read the lyrics….

“Thankful”

Somedays we forget
To look around us
Somedays we can’t see
The joy that surrounds us
So caught up inside ourselves
We take when we should give. So for tonight we pray for
What we know can be.
And on this day we hope for
What we still can’t see.
It’s up to us to be the change
And even though we all can still do more
There’s so much to be thankful for.Look beyond ourselves
There’s so much sorrow
It’s way too late to say
I’ll cry tomorrow
Each of us must find our truth
It’s so long overdueSo for tonight we pray for
What we know can be
And every day we hope for
What we still can’t see
It’s up to us to be the change
And even though we all can still do more
There’s so much to be thankful for.Even with our differences
There is a place we’re all connected
Each of us can find each other’s lightSo for tonight we pray for
What we know can be
And on this day we hope for
What we still can’t see
It’s up to us to be the change
And even though this world needs so much moreThere’s so much to be thankful for

Perspective

“You expect me to eat this garbage?”

“Can you please spare a morsel of food?”

“You’ve got to be kidding me?  This is the worst gift ever!”

“Thank you for thinking of me and taking the time to get me a gift”

Don’t Take It For Granted

Sometimes, we all forget how lucky we truly are….

If you can taste your favorite meal, move without pain, don’t take it for granted…some people can’t.

Gas prices too high? Stuck in traffic? Other drivers getting on your nerves? If you have a car, don’t take it for granted…some people don’t.

Tired of the chatter? Annoying co-workers? Wish everyone would just be quiet? If you can hear birds chirping in the morning, listen to your favorite music, don’t take it for granted…some people can’t.

Don’t like your job? Hate getting up in the morning? Don’t feel appreciated? If you have a job, don’t take it for granted…some people don’t.

Don’t like what’s for dinner? You didn’t ask for mayo on your sandwich? If you have food on the table, don’t take it for granted…some people don’t.

Had a fight with your sibling? Your cousin got on your nerves? Your parents have tough rules? Your spouse left the top off of the toothpaste tube? If you have a loving family, don’t take them for granted…some people don’t.

Didn’t get exactly what you wanted for your birthday? Your anniversary? For Christmas? If you are given anything from anyone, don’t take it for granted…some people never get anything.

Your home is too small? Your space is invaded? If you have a place to lay your head at night, don’t take it for granted…some people don’t.

If you can read this, don’t take it for granted…some people can’t.

If you woke up this morning, don’t take it for granted…some people didn’t. GOD BLESS.
