Gossip

I think this quote says it all…

The biggest liar in the world is They Say.  ~Douglas Malloch

We’ve all done it…repeated stories without verifying whether it is true or not. Some repeat it innocently, will no ill intent; and, sadly some  repeat it – or, even start salacious gossip – due to their own personal issues,  such as jealousy or revenge.

If a person has evil in their heart, [or, in the case of  those who make their living from spreading gossip] no message, blog, quote or reasoning will keep them from continuing to put out false information. However, I put together a slide show to illustrate that even those who don’t maliciously start or spread gossip, do some people an injustice by spreading rumors that they have not independently verified, or, by innocently misinterpreting information and passing it on….

I bet you wouldn’t want to be Mary in the above scenario.  The next time you think about passing on unverified information, take a moment and put yourself in that person’s shoes. If it is something that could be hurtful to that person [and, their friends and family], refrain from repeating it. You would want others to have the same consideration for you.
